Chelsea became the champion of the 2020-2021 season in the Champions League, beating Manchester City 1-0. In the final of the most important club level tournament of European football, the two English teams faced off at the Dragao Stadium in Porto, Portugal.

The first danger was experienced in the 8th minute in the struggle where both teams started briskly. Raheem Sterling, who hung well behind the defense in Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson's long pass, kicked the ball in the position facing the goalkeeper, but Edouard Mendy managed to take the ball into the corner.
Chelsea could not take advantage of clear opportunities with striker Timo Werner in the following minutes. While the German player missed the ball in front of a six-pass in the 10th minute, in the 14th minute, he aimed the leather ball to goalkeeper Ederson in the penalty area. The blue-white team found the goal they were looking for with another German attacker Kai Havertz in the 42nd minute. Facing the goalkeeper, Mason Mount's pass behind the defense, Havertz dodges Ederson and sends the ball into the net. Having scored the first goal of his Champions League career, Havertz set the score for the first half: 0-1.

In the second half, Manchester City was loaded for a draw, while Chelsea started the circuit with a defensive-heavy football. Riyad Mahrez, who entered the penalty area from the right in the 68th minute in Manchester City, turned the ball in front of the goal. Cesar Azpilicueta, who intervened before the vacant Ilkay Gundogan, prevented an absolute goal.

Chelsea, trying to be effective with counterattacks against Manchester City attacks, could not take advantage of a clear opportunity in the 73rd minute. Christian Pulisic, who faced the goalkeeper with Havertz's pass in the fast developing attack, sent the ball away from the side. Chelsea, who did not allow his opponent to score in the remaining minutes, won the fight 1-0 and reached the championship.

Playing the final for the third time in its history, Chelsea managed to take the trophy to its museum for the second time after its victory in 2012.

German coach Thomas Tuchel also won the first European trophy of his career.

Thiago Silva for Chelsea and Kevin De Bruyne for Manchester City had to leave the game after being injured in the 59th minute. Both players could not control their tears as they left the field.
